About Sherrill Schoening

A former resident of the beaches of California, the heart of Ohio, and culturally diverse South Fl, Sherrill has visited all but 2 of the States so far. The 2 she has left to see are Rhode Island and Oregon. Her love of travel has also taken her to many of the islands of the Caribbean, as well as Europe, Central America, South America, Canada, and Japan. Her travels have always inspired her art.

She now resides in DeLand Fl, where she recently downsized and has a studio in her home. There she is an active member of the Art community participating in many events such as the yearly Off the Beaten Path Studio Tour. She is a member of central FL Beaux Arts group and the International Silk Painters group. In 2024, she became a member of Artworks DeLand, where she is currently exhibiting.

Sherrill received her Bachelor of Art degree in Fine Arts, Specializing in Fiber Art from FIU in Miami. She also attended the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton Ohio, where she was classically trained as an artist and Miami Dade Community College in Miami.

Sherrill’s sculptures and paintings are in private collections around the world. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and interior design showrooms as well as on the art show circuit for more than 50 years. She has mostly been known for her paintings on silk, but recently she has been experimenting with other media such as acrylic painting and collage. Many of the Property Appraisers offices in Fl and Ga are decorated with her work.

“I have been fortunate to have always been able to earn my living with art. For 30 years I toured the Art Show circuit starting in Key West in January and ending up in Connecticut in September, then back to Florida for the Winter. I also worked at Ormond Art Museum as a curator on staff for 2 years, and after that did some free lance curating for them. I worked in Miami as a fabric designer, and designed fabrics for Starshine Studio in Davie FL. Although I enjoy many different media, Silk Painting has always been my favorite.”
